The number of U.S. broadband households is forecasted to reach 50 million by the end of this year — an increase of 18 percent from the end of 2005, according to The Diffusion Group (TDG).
Further, the research consultancy group predicts the number of broadband households in the United States will grow to more than 71 million by 2010. In other words, nearly two-thirds of U.S. households soon will have access to a high-speed conduit capable of delivering information, communications, entertainment and new media.
As broadband connectivity works its way deeper into U.S. households, the profile of broadband subscribers is becoming more mainstream, according to TDG. "As broadband connectivity becomes more mainstream, the average consumer electronic and technology profile of the household itself becomes more characteristic of true mass-market consumers," said Michael Greeson, founding partner and author of TDG's “Consumer Electronic Ownership among U.S. Broadband Households” report.
