U.K.: Bow Tie, SoundField Target Dart Tourney

Bow Tie Television, A British TV production service, recently refurbished their ENG truck with SoundField DSF-2 mic and DSF-3 5.1 decoder systems, in cooperation with satellite broadcaster BSkyB, for coverage of Sky Sports' world darts championship in Liverpool.

The firms recorded the dart-throwing event to multitrack using two analog SoundField systems. The broadcast was in stereo, but Sky took the multitrack recordings back to its London base to attempt to produce 5.1 coverage of the competition using the SoundField approach. As a result, Sky said it has decided to have all its Premier League darts coverage produced with HD and 5.1 surround sound, using Bow Tie Television's refurbished production vehicle.

Darts is a rather popular sport in the U.K., as any visitor to an English pub could attest. More than 7,500 enthusiasts attended the championship startup in February. The competition concludes in May at Wembley Arena.
