USCarrier Telecom, Network Innovations partner on video over IP

Southeastern wholesale high-speed, long-haul, fiber-optic transport provider USCarrier Telecom and Network Innovations have completed a 500Mb Ethernet circuit within the USCarrier fiber-optic network.

USCarrier is leveraging its core SONET and DWDM network to provide resilient Ethernet services, such as packetized voice and video applications, to meet demand for IPTV, mobile video and other content-driven applications. Recent deployments are applying Layer 2 and 3 switching capabilities for both the Internet backbone and video broadcasting services.

Com Net deploys Latens Systems-Minerva Networks CAS

Com Net, an Ohio-based company offering telecommunication services to 16 Independent Local Exchange Companies (ILECs), is managing and distributing encrypted content to its affiliates using one centralized Latens FCAS system.

Content is encrypted at Com Net’s central headend before being decrypted at each set-top box in the network. Entitlements in each ILEC network are independently managed by Minerva’s iTVManager platform through its integration with Latens FCAS.

MSF inaugurates permanent test bed program

The MultiService Forum (MSF) has launched a permanent test bed program to meet growing demand for testing NGN (Next Generation Networks) components and interfaces. The MSF NGN Interoperability Test Bed will be housed at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab (UNH-IOL) and, following an initial pilot trial this month, the first full portion of testing will be initiated in the first quarter of 2008 to address the interoperability of NGN media gateways.

Tullahoma Utilities Board selects Wave7 Optics for Triple Play' FTTP Network

The Tullahoma (TN) Utilities Board (TUB) has selected the Wave7 Optics Trident7 Universal Access Platform for a municipal FTTP network that will begin service to homes, businesses and schools late in the third quarter of 2008, the company said last week

TUB will begin construction of the network — a $16.9 million project that will cover the entire city limits — later this year and expects to complete the project in 2010. Owned and operated by TUB, the network will offer a triple play of voice, high-speed data (20+ Mb/s) and a 200-channel IPTV offering that will include many VOD options.

ARG wins major contract to supply Korea Telecom

Digicom has secured a deal to supply ARG’s Media Combiner into Korea Telecom. The deal comes as part of a multimillion-pound venture to rebuild the infrastructure for media transmission over the Korea Telecom network.

Korea Telecom is the largest telco provider in Korea. Digicom is a systems integrator and the ARG distributor in Korea.
