Skype founders to launch Internet TV service

Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, the founders of IP-telephony company Skype, will soon begin offering a worldwide Internet TV service, according to an article in the “Financial Times.”

The pair, who funded the project from the proceeds of their sale of Skype to eBay, are planning for the system to deliver video in “near high definition” quality, according to the report.

The service, which is currently being evaluated by 6000 testers, will launch early next year and offer traditional broadcasters, as well as independent producers, a means to reach a global audience, the paper reported.
