Sinclair Broadcast Group turns to Weather Central for HD

The Sinclair Broadcast Group will use Weather Central as its exclusive HD weather system as it rolls out HD local newscasts as well as MyWeather for its online weather needs.

The five-year agreement between Sinclair and Weather Central includes both on-air and online content creation and distribution solutions. For online use, Sinclair stations purchased the LIVE Online desktop component, which includes Web content.

For on-air use, the agreement includes 3D:LIVE HD for everyday weather, SuperMicroCast for forecasting, ESP:LIVE HD with X-Vision for storm detection and radar analysis and LIVE:Wire HD for information alerting. In addition, two of the Sinclair stations, WBFF in Baltimore and WSYX in Columbus, OH, purchased the 3D:Traffic RouteCAST HD solution for their on-air traffic coverage.

According to Sinclair VP of operations and engineering Del Parks, the broadcast group was looking for an HD weather system “that would really pop” and involve viewers in the weather.
