SBE to offer RF safety course

RF safety is on the agenda of the Society of Broadcast Engineers’ (SBE) Web-based course June 27.

Richard Strickland from RF Safety Solutions will teach ENG and SNG maintenance workers, chief engineers, assistant chief engineers and managers about the issues and regulations involved in RF safety.

The three-hour course, which begins at 2 p.m. EDT, will present an overview of RF radiation issues, including FCC and OSHA regulations; biological effects of RF radiation; the difference between RF radiation and ionizing radiation; and hazards in various broadcast workplaces, such as ENG and SNG vehicles, transmitter sites and remote sites.

The course costs $75 per person for sites with four or more participants and $110 for those three or fewer.
