Pinnacle provides major DTV conversion in Japan

Pinnacle Systems has received an order for 28 clusters of on-air servers from systems solutions partner Hitachi Kokusai Limited for use in 14 Japanese broadcast facilities.

Hitachi Kokusai will install Pinnacle’s new MediaStream 8000 at broadcast stations throughout Japan in response to the nation’s transition to digital terrestrial television.

The MediaStream 8000 handles all play-to-air applications, offering scalability from small channel counts based on independent storage to systems with over 100 channels in a shared storage configuration. It is designed specifically to work with Pinnacle’s Palladium Media Server enabling it to work independently to play content to air or in concert with other Pinnacle products.

A new system delivers more than 10 times the power of the previous generation of MediaStream, making it ideal for 4:2:0 and high-quality 4:2:2 MPEG formats in both SD and HD. The new systems will be installed by Hitachi Kokusai’s broadcasting systems engineering department.
