Paramount Adds Next-Gen Audio to Blu-ray, HD DVD

Paramount Home Entertainment said it will begin to incorporate HD-level audio—namely Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and uncompressed PCM, and perhaps later, DTS Master Lossless Audio—on a few of its next-gen disc titles due out by late summer and fall. While these and other audio formats have been available technically for years, most of the early title releases in both Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD by several studios have concentrated on video transfer quality, often at the expense of audio.

Paramount will add cutting-edge audio to its first titles on Aug. 28 with the comedy “Blades of Glory,” followed a month later with “Next,” according to High-Def Digest.

HD DVD editions of both motion pictures will incorporate Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound; Blu-ray versions will use uncompressed 5.1 PCM.
