One in five U.S. broadband homes to have way to watch Internet video on TV sets

Twelve million U.S. homes with broadband service will have a way to connect their home TV sets to the Internet by the end of the year, according to a new report from Emerging Media Dynamics.

Twenty percent of U.S. homes with broadband Internet access will have the ability to watch Internet video on their TVs by the end of the year, according to a new report from market research firm Emerging Media Dynamics.

That translates into 12 million U.S. homes having a means of connecting their home televisions to the Internet with one of several Internet-video-capable devices.

The report, “Delivering Internet Video to TV Sets,” forecasts in 10 years that figure will swell to 72.8 million U.S. household, an adoption rate that potentially could exceed the growth of broadband Internet connectivity.

While the expansion of Internet-TV-capable homes is dramatic, the report emphasized, simply because households have the ability does not necessarily mean they will use it to watch television.
