Officials Warns Against TV Target Practice

SALT LAKE CITY: Federal officials in Utah would like state residents to refrain from shooting their old analog TVs, AP reports. The folks at the regional Bureau of Land Management are concerned that area residents will take their old boob tubes out for a few rounds with the over-under.

Glenn Carpenter, BLM West Desert District manager, said last week that he’d already seen people using discarded TV sets for target practice. (See “Watch Where You Toss That TV.”) Analog sets, which contain a large cathode ray tube, typically explode when they’re shot. The BLM warned folks that cleaning up a bullet-riddled TV set could cost up to $7,000.
