NAB Show: Experts to Consider Surround-Sound Production

The often unheralded importance of audio—and specifically surround sound—as a vital element of HD production and delivery will be examined at the NAB Show in a session April 16 at 3:55 p.m, “HDTV Audio’s Potential in Real Time” (N239/241 of the LVCC).

The 45-minute session will target dealing with a broad range of outside sources for producing distinct 5.1 channel audio—ranging from local and network sports and entertainment programs fed from remote trucks to typical TV series surround-sound audio created in the relative comfort of Hollywood mixing studios.

Panelists discussing the production and transition of 5.1 compatible formats will include: Jeff Birch of CBS Stations Group Engineering; Michael Englehaupt of KPIX/KBCW-TV; David Hough of “Austin City Limits”; John McKenna of YES Network (N.Y. Yankees); Mark Metzler of KTVU-TV; and Steve Stahl of CNN.

Consultant Roger Charlesworth will moderate.
