Motorola intros integrated HDTV/PVR set-top box
By TVTechnology published
Motorola Broadband Communications has introduced combined HDTV/PVR functions in a single set-top box. The new Motorola DCT6000 series supports the plans of undisclosed cable operators to deliver a combination of interactive and entertainment services, such as personal video recording (PVR), high-definition television, and other processing-intensive applications.
Motorola said the DCT6000 platform builds on its previous DCT5100 and DCT5200 set-tops. The new model includes increased processing power; digital interfaces to digital television products, an integrated DOCSIS-compatible cable modem, and features such as pausing live TV and recording programs via the electronic program guide (EPG) interface.
Motorola said it plans to deploy the new set-top boxes this summer. Also on the product roadmap, Motorola said, is a dual-tuner variant and “whole-home“ PVR capabilities. The DCT6000 platform will support a variety of applications from Concurrent Computer, Gemstar-TV Guide International, Liberate, Microsoft TV, Pioneer Digital Technologies, and SeaChange International.
