Miami’s MegaTV chooses Canon lenses

MegaTV, a new Spanish language HDTV station in Miami, has purchased studio and portable HDTV lenses from Canon.

The newest addition to the Spanish Broadcasting System, MegaTV has a production schedule of 5.5 hours of HD programming per day. The station chose four Canon XJ22xs compact studio lenses, two wide-angle HJ11ex4.7B portable EFP lenses and two telephoto HJ22ex7.6B portable ENG lenses.

The station has two in-house studios producing everything from live news to late-night variety shows and an entertainment news magazine. Both of MegaTV’s HJ11ex4.7B HD EFP lenses — Canon’s widest angle HD glass — are mounted on jib cameras for overhead shots.

The lenses are capable of more than 91 degrees of horizontal angle of view in the 16:9 image format. This lens was specifically engineered for wide-angle shooting with minimum chromatic aberrations and geometric distortion. It was also designed for mobile, lightweight operation.

Two HJ22ex7.6B HD ENG lenses are used for handheld applications. The HJ22ex7.6B features Canon’s eDrive technology, which enables users to program zoom, focus and other settings for precise, automated repeatability. The XJ22xs compact HD studio lenses are scaled to provide bona fide “box lens” performance for portable HD cameras configured for studio use. Each weighs 13.4lb.
