Megahertz to design, integrate BBC News digital SNG vehicle

The vehicle will be fitted with a 10kVA on-board generator, two air-conditioning units and a 12-meter pneumatic mast.

BBC News has selected Cambridge, U.K.-based Megahertz Broadcast Systems to design and integrate a new Digital Satellite Newsgathering Vehicle.

This new contract follows the successful completion of a similar contract back in 2002 and another in February 2003.

Based on a 7.5-ton LWB Mercedes Vario, the vehicle will provide rapid-response newsgathering (television, radio and on-line) with production facilities and satellite uplinks.

The vehicle will be fitted with a 10kVA on-board generator, two air-conditioning units and a 12-meter pneumatic mast. The satellite system will be a Swe-dish 1.5m Ku-band antenna with HPAs integrated into the pod on the roof of the vehicle.

Production facilities will include three CCUs, video and audio mixers, a 32x32 SDI, a 64x32 audio router and a Trilogy talkback system.

Delivery of the vehicle is scheduled for June.
