Jane Mago, an FCC veteran of 26 years, is leaving the commission to become NAB's senior vice president and general counsel. She replaces Jack Goodman, who's leaving the trade association after 14 years to pursue other opportunities.
Mago has worked for three FCC commissioners: Anne Jones; Rachelle Chong; and Michael Powell before he became chairman. As general counsel from 2001-2003, Mago returned to the office where she spent much of her career at the FCC, as a litigation attorney and as assistant general counsel for trial and enforcement.
She began her FCC career in 1978, serving as a staff attorney in the former Common Carrier Bureau.
Mago will report to NAB's executive vice president of Legal & Regulatory Affairs Marsha MacBride.
At the FCC, Mago is leaving at the end of this month as chief of Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis. Linda Blair, currently Deputy Chief of the FCC's Enforcement Bureau and Deputy Director of the FCC's Homeland Security Policy Council, will serve as acting chief of OSP.
Goodman joined NAB in 1990 and has served as its general counsel since 1998.
"Jack has made significant contributions on issues including must carry and retransmission consent rights, ownership reform, approval for digital radio and television, and the end of the Fairness Doctrine," said NAB President/CEO Eddie Fritts. "We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
