As rumors surrounding the ongoing war between proponents of HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc to become the next-gen standard for DVD users, two major firms found themselves having to deny rumors that affected both formats in recent days.
One brief statement of denial from Kmart was issued by Jonathan Magasanik, a vice president for Kmart’s wholly owned subsidiary, Sears Holdings, who simply said: “There have been numerous statements in the media today, attributed to Toshiba, indicating exclusive support for the HD-DVD format in Kmart stores. These statements are false. Kmart intends to support both the HD-DVD and Blu-ray platforms, and has no plans to support either platform exclusively.”
Meanwhile, nearly a week after a Warner Bros. executive appeared to indicate it was leaning towards Blu-ray as the studio’s possible lone disc format of choice for its many movie titles (HD Notebook, Oct. 31, 2007) the studio this week said those remarks (given at a Blu-ray gathering) did not intended to signal Warner is planning to drop HD DVD, according to High-Def Digest.
