IPTV to drive network capacity, quality, says Ericsson CEO

Television will be the main impetus for the transformation in capacity and quality of telecommunication networks, according to the chief executive officer of Ericsson.

Speaking during the company's annual general meeting in Stockholm, Carl-Henric Svanberg said IPTV "will drive traffic," and the need for more equipment and opportunities to offer new services and multimedia.

Ericsson recently acquired Entisphere and Redback Networks, purchased Marconi last year, and received regulatory approval April 23 of its public offer to buy TANDBERG Television. Each brings technologies that round out Ericsson's product line in IPTV, optical broadband and IP routing.
