Ion to Delay HD Launch

Ion Television announced this week that, to help reduce any consumer confusion caused by the recent decision by Congress to delay the nationwide shut-off of analog television transmission, it is moving its HD launch from Feb. 16 to March 16.

The network had announced it would launch HD service in 20 markets on Feb. 16, the day before the long-planned nationwide analog shut off. Last week, President Obama signed legislation delaying the shut off until June 12.

The network said, like other broadcasters, Ion “has worked hard to ensure a seamless transition for consumers and will continue its efforts through June 12 and beyond.

Ion now will launch HD in the same 20 markets on March 16 and will launch HD on its other 40 stations later in the year.
