IBC2007 opens amid transformation of industry fundamentals

The IBC2007 conference program opens today setting the stage for a convention and an industry grappling with advancements in acquisition, production and distribution technology that are changing the fundamentals of the media and entertainment industry.

For instance, a transition from linear tape-based production to filed-based IT-centric workflows is well underway with a growing selection of non-tape-based acquisition media feeding a production chain. Efficiencies gained through this transition not only are helping broadcasters and content producers feed new traditional channels, but also are helping them keep pace with program demands for new, emerging distribution platforms, ranging from the Internet and IPTV channels to mobile handheld devices.

IBC2007 is tackling these and other significant technology trends and advancements with a wide variety of keynotes, sessions, master classes, technical papers and technology-specific zones.

Those entering the RAI Convention Center during the next five days will find a rich conference schedule divided into five theme days, including:

  • Broadcasting by Broadband
  • Global Broadcast Markets
  • Digital Lifestyles
  • Content Production
  • Digital Cinema

While each theme day has its own topic-specific conference program, nearly 50 technical papers will be presented on the implementation of various other technologies.

The conference schedule for IBC2007 runs today through Monday, Sept. 10. The IBC2007 exhibition floor opens tomorrow and runs through Sept. 11 at the RAI Convention Center.
