Houston's KRIV-TV Installs New Baron Radar

KRIV-TV in Houston has become the first TV station in the country to implement the new Guardian dual polarization one megawatt C-band weather radar from Baron Services.

The new radar system can penetrate the strongest of storms and offer greater precision and accuracy. It differs from conventional radar systems in that pulses in both horizontal and vertical planes are transmitted, allowing better detection of precipitation. The KRIV-TV radar also has Baron's Hydrometer Identification feature, which allows meteorologists to determine with greater precision what type and how much precipitation is falling.

"Weather is an important part of why people watch the news, so it's essential that we provide viewers the most accurate and up to date forecasts," said D'Artagnan Bebel, KRIV-TV's vice president and general manager. "Having cutting edge technology such as Baron's Guardian radar helps us deliver on this commitment to our audience."

The KRIV-TV radar system has also been upgraded with new Baron VIPIR HD and FasTrac HD software to provide improved on-air visuals for its viewers.

KRIV-TV is owned and operated by The Fox Television Stations group.
