Next month, London-based High TV will celebrate its first anniversary of delivering extreme sports coverage to viewers worldwide via the Internet.
The free-over-the-Internet channel, which claims to be the first of its kind in the world, offers programming covering a variety of extreme sports, including snowboarding, windsurfing, mountain biking and skiing.
Streamed via the Internet at a variety of speeds to accommodate user bandwidth limitations, High TV offers a mix of live and recorded events. The site provides users with a simple choose-and-test method of determining the optimum bandwidth for transmission from 56 Kbs modem to 800 Kbs ADSL/Cable connections.
High TV, which runs commercials between program segments, claims to be the world’s first 24/7 programmed channel on the Web that streams events, news, features and stories about extreme and adventure sports. According to High TV, more than 125 million Internet users from around the world watch sports on the site.
