HDNet delivers clear view of Atlantis for NASA Debris Team

HDNet’s coverage of the liftoff of the Space Shuttle Atlantis Sept. 9 not only gave subscribers a high-resolution view of the flight, it provided NASA engineers with some extra help analyzing the launch.

Using the HD imagery provided by HDNet, engineers were able to look for any release of the protective foam from the outer surface of the shuttle’s external tank that may have occurred during the launch.

The NASA Debris Team quick-look analysis began immediately following the launch and included the HDNet cameras that recorded the lift-off, the roll and the rocket booster separation.

As with the previous launch of Discovery in July, HDNet used 14 cameras positioned throughout the Kennedy Space Center in addition to a Canon 86xTele lens.
