Flat-panel sales exceed 113 million for 2007
When the final sales are tallied for 2007, the number of flat-panel displays sold worldwide will have reached 113 million, according to Pacific Media Associates.
However, in its latest quarterly, “Worldwide Flat-Panel Display Forecast,” the large-screen display market research firm finds that the growth of flat panels is beginning to slow. According to Pacific Media Associates VP Rosemary Abowd, the growth in unit sales in 2008 over 2007 levels will be 41 percent. In 2007, sales grew 86 percent over the 2006 level, and 2006 unit sales were 89 percent higher than in 2005.
“The projected 41 percent unit growth for 2008 is still a healthy increase, but significantly less than the growth we saw in 2006 and 2007,” she said.
The research firm also found overall street price declines of 14.7 percent in 2007 and forecasts a drop of 15.6 percent this year.
