DST helps public broadcaster automate operations

Pictured is Dale Hendel, broadcast operations technician, at KAET-TV’s new multichannel digital master control center, designed and implemented by DST in Tempe, AZ.

Where previously it operated separated master control and air tape operations, KAET-TV, a PBS affiliate on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ, has combined and installed a new automated multichannel master control system. The station is the primary PBS facility for the northern two-thirds of Arizona, including Phoenix.

The new infrastructure, which makes the station more efficient in its handling of content, was designed and implemented by Digital System Technology (DST). DST provided systems integration and equipment installation work, as well as training for the KAET staff.

A newly installed Microfirst automation system provides more efficient signal path control for KAET’s one HD and three SD channels.
