Display technologies drive factory-to-dealer CE sales, report says

Total factory-to-dealer sales of consumer electronics will surpass $160 billion in 2007, and the biggest contributor to the total in terms of dollars is display technology, according to a new Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) forecast.

Forecasted to reach shipment totals of $26 billion for 2007, the display category — including the category’s anchor, flat-screen digital televisions — continues to grow, with more than 30 million digital televisions projected to ship by year’s end, as consumers embrace digital technologies.

In total, the semi-annual “U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecasts” projects 8 percent industry growth in 2007.

More than 60 companies contributed to the latest report, enhancing the accuracy of the forecast and making this the greatest pool of participants in more than two decades.
