DirecTV will provide a new HD programming package, which includes ESPN HD, Discovery HD Theater, HDNet and HDNet Movies, to customers on July 1 for $10.99 a month. Special additional events, like the Masters Tournament and NBA games, will be broadcast in HD.
ESPN HD is a 24-hour simulcast of ESPN; Discovery HD Theater delivers programming about culture, nature, technology and travel; HDNet features live sports, boxing, drama series, concerts and news; and HDNet Movies delivers made-for-TV movies, independent films and movie titles from Sony, Warner Bros. The HD package brings DirecTV's HD channel tally to seven; the satcaster also provides HBO HDTV, Showtime HDTV and HD PPV to its over 11.4 million customers.
