Dalet inks $1.2-million media asset management, digital archive deal with ABS-CBN

ABS-CBN Broadcast, one of the Philippine’s largest media and entertainment companies, has chosen Dalet Enterprise Edition for its facilitywide media asset management (MAM) platform and archiving solution. Dalet worked closely with business partner Challenge Systems to design the enterprise workflow that preserves and digitalizes existing media assets while enabling ABS-CBN to add new media channels such as Web and mobile TV — streamlining the entire ingest to archiving process. A completely file-based workflow, the Dalet solution will integrate business and broadcast technologies from Masstech, IBM, Exanet, Snell & Wilcox, Apple and Avid to create a highly collaborative media production and distribution environment that optimizes and facilitates processes from scheduling and playout to archive.

The Dalet workflow will migrate existing ABS-CBN material — 21 years’ worth — from analog formats into a common DVCPRO 50. Low-resolution proxies will be generated and remain online for search and retrieval from any Dalet workstation or via Web browser. Newly created ABS-CBN program material — soap operas, reality TV, magazine programs — will be shot using Panasonic P2 and Sony XDCAM cameras and stored in the Dalet Content Catalog for seamless integration with production systems from Apple and Avid, playout servers and other multimedia platforms. The new digital workflow will enable ABS-CBN to distribute programs and content to a wide range of media with much greater ease and efficiency. Older material from the vast archives will be incrementally added to the system; all material will be incorporated into the system within five years.
