Comcast and the NHL have put together a $100 million deal granting the cable operator the right to televise league games for the 2005-06 season, with an undetermined number to be carried in HD, according to an Aug. 9 report in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The league, which is returning to play after a labor dispute put last season on ice, has long believed that HDTV — with its wider aspect ratio and sharper images — will help build a television audience for the sport.
NBC already has a two-year deal with the league. Comcast will put its game coverage on the Outdoor Life Network.
