Television viewers continue to vote yes with their wallets when it comes to digital television if recently released figures from the Consumer Electronics Association are any indication of consumer acceptance of the new technology.
Factory shipments of DTV products to dealers in July totaled 238,835 producing revenue of $354.8 million for the month, the CEA figures showed. Those sales put manufacturer-to-dealer sales of DTV products on track for a record year.
This year’s unit sales for July grew eight percent compared to July 2002 figures. Dollar revenue on DTV unit sales remained level.
As of July, factory sales of DTV products totaled 1,677,548 units with revenue of more than $2.5 billion. As compared to unit sales during the first seven months of 2002, this year’s aggregate unit sales for the January through July period have risen 56 percent and dollar sales have increased 34 percent.
Recently, the CEA revised its projections for DTV unit sales upward. The new numbers project 4.3 million units to be sold in 2003, 5.8 million in 2004, 8.3 million in 2005, 11.9 million in 2006 and 16.2 million in 2007.
