CBS to Provide a Behind the Scenes Look at the MetLife Blimp

Golf fans who watch CBS’s coverage of major events on the links have become very familiar with the MetLife blimp, which provides spectacular overhead shots of famous courses. Now, through a documentary to be shown this weekend, viewers will be able to go behind the scenes to see how the famous balloon achieves those dramatic views.

In an hour-long special “The Best Shot in Golf” airing this Saturday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. ET, the network will summarize how the 1,500 foot aerial shot has become an essential part of how CBS Sports covers the PGA Tour.

The show, presented by MetLife, a longtime sponsor of CBS’s golf coverage, will take viewers to Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines in California and Hilton Head Island, N.C. and Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., among other sites. Produced by PGA TOUR Productions, the special will show how the MetLife blimp, tagged “Snoopy One,” uses an aerial camera to capture distinct features of each golf course and what players face on specific shots. The documentary will also showcase what goes on in the CBS television truck where the production team strategically works the blimp camera into the telecast.
