TV Channel Utilization Report Released

The FCC report on Television Channel Utilization as of Dec. 31, 2004 is now available. It shows, by market, for commercial and noncommercial TV channels, the number of VHF and UHF channels licensed, the number for which construction permits have been granted and the number for which an application has been filed. As was the case last year, the link provided for the report references a Mass Media Bureau Web site, www.fcc.gov/mmb/prd/tvu.html, which no longer exists.

Table 2 - Analog Channel Utilization lists the number of channels by band by community within a market and the total number of channels used in a market. The number one market, New York, utilizes 23 analog channels and the number two market, Los Angeles, 28. Table 2 - Digital Channel Utilization does the same for DTV channels. The report shows 23 DTV channels utilized in New York and 26 utilized in Los Angeles. Another table lists communities by state and what market number they are associated. Summaries of TV channel utilization by market size are available.
