FCC Announces International Space Regulatory Workshop

Filing applications for satellite licenses can be difficult, especially when international notification, coordination and registration is required. To help those engineers, attorneys and others who prepare satellite applications for filing, the FCC, International Telecommunications Union and the Satellite Industry Association (SIA) will present a four-day intensive workshop on satellite coordination and licensing at the FCC's Commission Meeting Room in Washington, D.C. Dec. 12-15.

The Satellite Industry Association meeting announcement listed topics that satellite experts from ITU and the FCC will help participants understand:
1) How to work within the FCC regulatory process;
2) How to apply the international Radio Regulations and requirements of the ITU Rules of Procedure, in both the geostationary and the non-geostationary satellite context;
3) How to navigate the new ITU notification, coordination, and registration process, including an examination of FCC legal and policy requirements for satellite and earth stations, particularly in applying the newly imposed ITU satellite cost-recovery principles;
4) How to complete satellite electronic notification/registration forms.

For more information and how to register for the workshop, see the The Satellite Industry Association meeting announcement (Word document) and the FCC Public Notice - FCC announces international space regulatory workshop. There is no cost to attend this workshop, although the FCC strongly encourages advance registration.
