AZCAR implements DTV for Nexstar TV station group

Nexstar Broadcasting Group, with 23 stations in 15 U.S. markets, has chosen systems integrator AZCAR Technologies to help upgrade its stations to digital television (DTV) operation. AZCAR is now in the process of installing digital equipment, including DTV encoders from TANDBERG Television and various monitoring systems. The digital packages for each station were designed to allow Nexstar to begin the transition to digital broadcasting at a minimum capital cost, while providing planned growth as the market (and TV set penetration) increases.

In the Champaign/Springfield, Illinois market, AZCAR’s solution allows stations in both markets to share a common encoding platform while combining the signals of the CBS station in Champaign with the UPN station in Springfield. This allows simplified distribution of both signals into market geographically separated, AZCAR said.

AZCAR, based in Markham, Ontario, is an independent technology integration company with offices in TK, Pa. The company offers broadcast consulting, engineering, systems design, integration, and project management services. AZCAR’s broadcast client list includes Echostar (satellite TV), Sinclair Broadcast Group (terrestrial TV) and Turner Entertainment (cable TV).
