WDAY-TV purchases cameras in preparation for transition to HD

Fargo, ND’s ABC affiliate WDAY-TV is modernizing its operations. The station recently purchased 18 JVC GY-HD100U Pro HD cameras and 15 JVC BR-HD50U VTRs for the station’s ENG upgrade.

The company selected the GY-HD100U for its versatility being able to record in SD or HD. WDAY is planning to upgrade the entire station to HD soon and these cameras are expected to fit into the new format.

WDAY plans to capture footage from the GY-HD100U using Focus Enhancement’s portable FS-4 recorder as its main acquisition format. It will transfer the footage directly from the hard drive into its Final Cut Pro editing systems. As a backup, the station will also record onto tape and can access the taped footage using JVC’s BR-HD50U recorder/player to transfer the video and audio into its editing system.

JVC conducted a three-day end-user training session on site at WDAY with 20 videographers, reporters and engineers to acclimate the crew to features on the GY-HD100U.
