At SuperComm 2003, Tandberg Television will launch products for delivering video over IP via commercial xDSL and FTTH deployments. The headend package, targeting telcos and other non-traditional broadcasters, is based on Tandbergs iTTV broadband delivery platform, which the company says optimizes the video quality-versus-cost equation.
Options for broadcasters include streaming, rate changing and standard and premium encoding and address streaming to home, digital turnaround of digital content from Satellite, A-D conversion and turnaround of video in the lower data-rates of DSL.
A typical DSL of FTTH deployment features Tandberg TV MPEG-2 encoders, IP streamers, transport stream descramblers and integrated receivers/decoders. Third-party set-top boxes, VOD servers and middleware for EPGs are also supported.
