Olympic-themed World Championship Sports Network Inks Deal With Granite Broadcast

Broadband channel World Championship Sports Network has signed a deal with Granite Broadcast for the distribution of its signal on linear TV. Granite owns 23 channels, including affiliates of NBC, CBS, ABC, the CW and MyNetworkTV.

WCSN is set to launch March 1st in San Francisco through a multicasting accord with Comcast, and will offer 24-hour service dedicated solely to Olympic sports. WCSN will be available to 1.5 million digital cable subscribers in 10 other markets served by Granite in the next nine months.

WCSN launched online in early 2006 and showcases Olympic sports like track and field, gymnastics, skiing, snowboarding, volleyball and swimming. The network has roughly 100,000 hours of content available for its use, and will include a news show called Championship Center, plus possible weeknight theme fare. Approximately 80% of the online content is free, and the rest is available by subscription for $4.95 a month. The site currently has 10,000 subscribers.
