WCPO-TV Upgrades with Nvision, Omneon

Cincinnati ABC affiliate WCPO-TV recently updated its 35-plus year old facility with Nvision routing and control systems.

The upgrade--completed in June--also included the addition of Omneon Spectrum servers with 10 edit bays, five edit suits, four graphics suites and two on-air studios.

The Nvision gear includes an NV8256-Plus digital video router, an NV7256 digital video router and an NV5128-MC multichannel master control switcher and an NV9000 control system. The digital video router is configured for 32x32 HD/SWB, 128x128 SD-SDI plus 64x64 analog video.

The station will use the 8 RU master control switcher for SD and HD channel switching. The digital video router handles both SD and HD signals.

"Our primary HD output occurs in primetime, plus sports programming, but we wanted full HD compatibility through our Omneon video server. We have already received orders to play high-definition spots on WCPO-DT," said Joe Martinelli chief engineer of WCPO-TV.

The master control switcher also handles both directed and embedded audio as well as a built-in Dolby-E decoding option.
