Study: HD in 47 U.S. Million Homes by 2009
By TVTechnology published
A new study is projecting that more than 47 million American households will be HD subscribers to one level of service or another by the end of the current calendar year. If accurate, the HD penetration would be about 42 percent of all television homes in the United States.
The report, from Pike & Fischer, notes an increase of about 17 million homes by the end of 2008, compared to the end of 2007. The study goes on to predict that more than 100 million American TV households will be paying for HD services and/or related rental equipment by January 2013.
“Strong consumer demand” for HD could generate as much as $2.6 billion in annual revenue for multichannel video providers within less than five years, the study finds.
