EchoStar Satellite L.L.C. surrendered its launch and operation authority for an extended Ku-band satellite at 83 degrees West Longitude (WL) using the 13750-14000 MHz and 11450-11700 MHz frequency bands. The FCC said these frequencies at this orbit location are now available for reassignment.
DIRECTV was granted authority to launch and operate its SPACEWAY-2 Ka-band satellite at 99.05 degrees WL, using the 18.365-18.53 GHz, 18.57-18.735 GHz, 19.7-20.2 GHz, 28.36-28.525 GHz, 29.26-29.425 GHz, and 29.5-30.0 GHz frequency bands. DIRECTV was also given authority to launch and operate its SPACEWAY-1 Ka-band satellite at 103.05 degrees WL and its DIRECTV 8 Ka-band fixed satellite service at 100.85 degrees WL using the same frequency bands. In addition to the Ka-band license for DIRECTV 8, the FCC approved direct broadcast satellite (DBS) use of DIRECTV 8, transmitting and receiving on the 16 odd-numbered channels between 1 and 31 inclusive in the 12.2-12.7 GHz (space-to-Earth) and 17.3-17.8 GHz (Earth-to-space) frequency bands at 100.85 degrees WL.
