NAB Says Please Pull Those Satellite Radio Transmitters

NAB President and CEO David Rehr sent a letter to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin once again asking that illegal satellite radio transmitters be recalled.

Citing a recent piece in The New York Times about how the devices interfere with local over-the-air radio, Rehr reiterated his plea to get them off the market. He noted that the devices typically function in the lower FM band, where religious and noncommercial stations are normally assigned.

Rehr last year asked XM and Sirius, the nation's two satellite radio broadcasters, to voluntarily withdraw all noncompliant devices in circulation. The broadcast lobby had done a study that revealed of 17 transmitters, 13 exceeded FCC interference limits.
