Motorola, Cox to Supply Students With Cable Modems
Motorola and Cox Communications' San Diego cable system are collaborating on an educational pilot program with the Lemon Grove (Calif.) School District to provide local students with cable modems in their homes.
Through the One-to-One@School and Home program, two Lemon Grove sixth grade classes and a team of three teachers are all provided with Motorola SBG1000 wireless cable modem gateways in students' homes via Cox's broadband network. The SBG1000 includes a cable modem, an Ethernet router, a wireless access point, print server and firewall. The technology connects Lemon Grove students, teachers and disparate district resources through a virtual private network.
