Utah Scientific’s Utah-400 router and Utah MC-400 master control switcher form the nucleus of a centralcasting system being used by Max Media to program 12 of their television operations in six Montana markets.
In announcing the deployment, Utah Scientific said that planning for the system began some time ago, with the initial equipment installed two years ago. The system was expanded this summer, with all digital transmissions beginning on June 12.
Mark Huller, Max Media’s director of engineering, said that he chose the equipment package based on his long standing experience with Utah Scientific’s gear.
“Ironically, what really sold me on the new Utah Scientific equipment was an old piece of Utah equipment--an analog router that has been in place at my home station in Billings since I came to work here in 1984,” Huller said. “Utah Scientific still supports that router and even has parts for it. The reliability and durability of Utah products is phenomenal, and so is the service. When it was time to begin the digital conversion process in Missoula, I naturally turned to Utah Scientific again.”
The operation’s core is located in Missoula, Mont., with feeds being delivered to stations in that market, as well as properties located in Kalispell, Butte, Bozeman, Great Falls and Helena.
