KPDX, KPTV Upgrade with PESA

Meredith Broadcasting stations KPTV and KPDX have upgraded their combined PESA routing systems.

The upgrade--to facilitate production and playout--will house consolidated master control operations for both Portland-based FOX 12 Oregon and UPN 49.

In 2000, KPDX installed a PESA Tiger 144x144 frame and populated the frame to 112x96 with both analog and digital cards. The station also installed a separate analog router and dubbing routers.

Last August, Ed Williams--director of engineering, for Fox 12 Oregon--and his team built out the Tiger frame, making it a completely digital 144x144 system. The team also replaced the 24x16 analog router with a Jaguar 64x64 switcher and attached the routers.

The PESA 3500Pro system controller manages the Tiger and Jaguar, the PESA RS422 port switcher and the new Ocelot-HD 8x8 HD router. Each Tiger 48x16 matrix comes in a 12RU video chassis or 8RU stereo audio chassis. The Jaguar 64x64 matrix comes in a 5 or 6 RU chassis.
