Omneon Video Networks announced that KDLT, an NBC affiliate based in Sioux Falls, SD, has installed an Omneon Spectrum media server that is being used for playout of commercial content and interstitials on its main channel and its Weather Plus digital secondary channel.
“We selected the Omneon Spectrum because of its flexible architecture and reliability,” said John Lane, studio supervisor for KDLT. “The Spectrum system offers a number of advantages, including easy expansion and proven interfaces to our other systems, such as automation and traffic. We see the Spectrum server as a long-term investment that will grow with us as our needs change over time.”
The Omneon system at KDLT has replaced a proprietary legacy server system that was not easily expandable and did not interface adequately with the third party systems in use at the station. Playback of KDLT’s main channel and the Weather Plus channel from the Spectrum server are under the control of a Sundance Digital automation system.
The Omneon Spectrum server features built-in resiliency for reliable operation. It leverages industry-standard formats and protocols, making it compatible with the broadest range of applications and allowing broadcasters to choose best-of-breed, end-to-end solutions to serve their needs. As virtually every function of the system is independently scalable, broadcasters can add new channels and functions easily as their needs change.
