KBJR Upgrades With Comprompter

NBC affiliate KBJR-TV in Duluth, Minn. recently installed Comprompter's NewsKing tapeless newsroom system to automate a NewsBank nonlinear tapeless solution from Digital Broadcast. The complete end-to-end digital system allows KBJR to work on a shared digital network workflow environment.

The station is part of Northland's NewsCenter, which includes fellow NBC affiliate KRII-TV, CBS affiliate KDLH-TV; UPN affiliate KBJR-DT2 (the future "My Network TV") and the WB-100 plus cable-channel (the future CW). NewsKing and NewsBank facilitate news production at all of the NewsCenter sites, which the company said adds up to more than 50 hours of local news programming each week.

"NewsKing and NewsBank make that kind of production consolidation cost-effective and practical," said Northland's NewsCenter News Director Derrick Hinds.

NewsBank provides a seamless interface with the NewsCenter's existing Adobe Premier Pro editing workstations so that edited stories are transferred between the servers and the edit bays. It also features interfaces to BitCentral and Pathfire, so news material is ready for editing and playout with no format conversion required. NewsKing monitors and controls the playout of all video clips for each newscast.

Granite Broadcasting Corp. owns Northland's NewsCenter stations.
