Interview: Neuman discusses Los Angeles 2GHz BAS relocation – Part II

In this, the second part of my interview with Chris Neuman, owner of CNC Consulting in Los Angeles, Neuman discusses how the four years of planning that went into the LA market cluster BAS relocation paid off.

According to the man Sprint Nextel tapped to coordinate the effort, the biggest surprise of the mammoth project was just how smoothly the actual relocation went. Anticipating problems with a project of this scale is understandable, especially considering that some 200 ENG vehicles, 14 helicopters and 175 receive sites in Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Palm Springs were part of the relocation.

The former KTLA director of operations and engineering also discusses some of the lessons learned in the LA market cluster that other markets may find helpful, as well as how the new COFDM equipment is giving ENG operators a new freedom they never had with the old analog gear.

A note special to listeners:Part I of this interview with Chris Neuman is available on the Broadcast Engineering Web site in the podcast section.
