Flat-screen HDTVs top holiday wish list, Solution Research Group says

Santa better upgrade his sleigh to carry all of the flat-screen HDTVs he’ll need to deliver this year, if he’s going to be true to the wish lists of grown-up boys and girls throughout America.

Results released Oct. 10 of a consumer poll from researcher Solutions Research Group found that the No. 1 item on a holiday wish list of electronics was a flat-screen HDTV. Flat-screen HDTVs topped the wish lists of 37 percent of men and 33 percent of women surveyed. Another 6 percent who wanted a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player, which ranked No. 10 on the overall list, joined the 35 percent selecting flat-screen HD sets.

Consistent with other polls indicating a general lack of understanding about what’s needed to create an HD experience — or alternately indicative of a massive upswing in the number of over-the-air TV viewers — the poll found that only 2 percent said they intended to get a cable or satellite HD box.

The poll of 1200 Americans also found that 76 percent of respondents had at least one “digital lifestyle product,” such as an HDTV, laptop or cell phone, on their holiday wish list.
