The FCC is expanding its DTV education efforts with a series of promotional tools that include radio announcements, transit advertising and billboards.
Public service announcements will be provided to more than 11,000 radio stations, while billboards and transit ads will be added to 45 television markets. The ads, said the FCC, are already in place in Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL.
In addition, the NAB announced a program with African-American churches to help spread the word about the DTV transition. The goal is to place DTV education materials in every church bulletin, as well as to have ministers talk to their congregations about the coming Feb. 17, 2009, shutdown of analog TV signals.
Applications for government-subsidized digital-to-analog converter box coupons will be handed out, and the churches will train volunteers to help the elderly and disabled fill out the coupon forms and install the boxes.
The NAB also plans a similar outreach effort with Hispanic churches.
