DW-TV Goes Mobile in Indonesia

DW-TV, the international television service from German foreign service broadcaster Deutsche Welle, will be available to users of mobile devices in Indonesia starting in June 2007.

The channel will be part of the Indosat multimedia service available in the 10 largest cities of Indonesia. Six months after its launch, the Indosat mobile TV package has 40,000 subscribers. Indosat also operates cable TV networks in Jakarta and has been a Deutsche Welle partner since 2001.

Content aggregator SpeedCast Ltd. in Hong Kong formats the DW-TV signals for its MobiCast platform and provides these to Asian telecommunications companies for broadcasting to consumers. The MobiCast service includes DW-TV, as well as BBC World, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg, CNBC, and other stations.
