Denver panel approves DTV tower

Commissioners in Jefferson County, CO, have approved the construction of a high-power digital television facility on Lookout Mountain to serve a consortium of Denver-area broadcasters. The tower and a 20,000-square-foot equipment building will occupy slightly more than eight acres of an 81-acre site.

After two additional hearings on the issue, which was ordered reopened by a court ruling handed down in March, commissioners again voted 3-0 to approve a plan to replace three large existing towers and a number of smaller ones with a single 730-foot main tower on the mountain overlooking Golden.
